Abilgaard at the Louvre
France (Paris)
13 Nov 2008 - 9 Feb 2009
Paris' Louvre presents an exhibition dedicated to Nicolaï Abilgaard (1743-1809), leading figure of 18th-century Nordic art. This is the first time the painter's works have been shown in France.
Abilgaard's oeuvre, heavily influenced by Enlightenment thinking, was as much political as it was creative. The exhibition unites some 40 of his historical canvases, alongside the pieces of furniture and theatrical costumes for which he was also admired. Please visit the musuem's website for further details.
