Walker Evans: Photographing America (1929-1947)
France (Paris)
10 Sep - 21 Dec 2008
Paris' Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson celebrates the centennial anniversary of its founding father with a retrospective dedicated to the photographer he admired most: Walker Evans. Photographing America (1929-1947) unites the work of the two photographers and their love of the US.

Some 24 black and white images from the Twenties, Thirties and Forties are on display at the gallery, spanning both urban and rural America, from the streets of New York, Washington and Chicago to the backwaters of the Mississipi and Alabama. Both photographers trained their lens on the characters they encountered while exploring the States and their works provide a contrasting social commentary on this period of American history. For further details visit the Fondation HCB website.
